Most Accurate Pistol - Designed to Swiss Army specifications to replace the Swiss version of the Luger, the design saw service in several national militaries and was produced in three different countries. However, it has been phased in and out of production due to its expensive nature.
Recently, SIG Sauer, Inc. the pistol is reintroduced to the US market as a complete "Made in USA" pistol. The path it took to get there is a reflection of the development of the SIG brand itself, from an industrial enterprise that made weapons for the Swiss Army to an almost entirely American brand.

The P210 first appeared as part of a wave of post-World War II small arms modernization throughout the Swiss Army. The Swiss wanted to replace their version of the Luger because it had become too expensive to manufacture. Swiss industry had already tried to simplify the Luger, but nineteenth-century pistol design could only do so much.

As a result, SIG, which stands for Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft, or literally Swiss Industry Company, produced a variety of small arms to meet military needs. Originally, a version of the French M1935 pistol was purchased, but the design was adapted to better suit Swiss conditions and the pistol was redesigned for accuracy. However, the recoil spring and locking mechanism were largely carried over from the M1935 to the P210 design.
The design was completed in 1949 and quickly adopted by the Swiss and Danish military. By all accounts, he had a fairly successful service, proving reliable and very accurate. P210s were also popular in the civilian market, where they were used to compete in target shooting competitions.
However, the P210 complicated machine was quite expensive to produce. In the 1970s, the Swiss SIG entered into a partnership with JP Sauer and Sohn, a German firearms manufacturer. At that time, Sauer had not designed a pistol for over twenty years, and their last pistol was the World War II-era Sauer 38H police pistol. The partnership shared expertise and allowed SIG to export firearms more easily.
The new SIG Sauer GmbH, based in Germany, was a branch of the Swiss SIG. Unlike the larger SIG that produced a wide range of products, SIG Sauer GmbH would only make firearms. Their first product was the P220, a single-stack 9mm pistol intended to replace the P210. Designed for production on modern manufacturing equipment, the P220 was cheaper but less accurate than the P210.

The P220 would become SIG Sauer's most successful pistol line, spawning the double-barreled 9mm P226 and featuring many compact and chambered variants. It replaces the P210 service in Switzerland; Production of the P210 for military use by SIG ceased in the 1970s, and it was later turned into a civilian weapon.
SIG Sauer GmbH purchased an American distributor in the 1980s from SIGARMS Inc. was founded as a simple import company to sell SIG Sauer pistols in the US market. Most European firearms manufacturers have an American branch registered as a US company, but SIGARMS went a little further. In 1990, they began making components for SIG Sauer pistols in the United States, and in 1992, they began producing the P229 in .40 S&W. SIGARMS would be a SIG Sauer, Inc. in 2007.
However, the Swiss SIG had problems brewing. Although the Swiss company managed to keep itself important in the design and production of the SG550 rifle in 5.56 for the Swiss military throughout the 1970s and 1980s, in the 1990s contracts were reduced. The SIG firearms division was spun off from SIG Arms Hämmerli AG, then simply Hämmerli AG. SIG's biggest concern was cutting ties entirely with the firearms division in 2000.
After some involvement with Lüke & Ortmeier Gruppe, a German investment company, Hämmerli AG was restructured into SAN Swiss Arms AG, which continued to produce P210s until 2005, when they stopped in favor of producing the SG550 series of rifles.

SIG Sauer GmbH then purchased the license to produce P210s in 2010 and produced a limited series of P210s in 2010, sold by SIG Sauer, Inc. In the US under the name P210 Legend.
However, the partnership between SIG Sauer GmbH and SIG Sauer, Inc. should not. but only in recent years. In 2015, SIG Sauer, Inc. announced that it would stop importing weapons from SIG Sauer GmbH to take advantage of America's less restrictive export laws and reduce costs. This caused great concern at SIG Sauer GmbH, resulting in massive layoffs and a reduction in almost half of the workforce.
The latest P210 shown at the latest show is made entirely in the USA, by SIG Sauer Inc. By all accounts, the new release is very popular in the US civilian market. But there were pistols made by SIG Sauer, Inc. mixed with a reputation for quality. Overcoming the same manufacturing problems that plagued the US-made P365 and P226s may have slightly tarnished SIG Sauer, Inc.'s P210's reputation for reliability and well-crafted fit and finish.
That's where the P210 story ends, for now. Produced by four different companies: the original SIG, Swiss Arms, SIG Sauer GmbH, and SIG Sauer Inc., the pistol remains one of the most accurate in the world today.

As collectors of very well made competition and range pistols, we have spent a lot of time shooting some excellent pistols and posting about them on various internet forums under the names bac1023 and Yuns. During our time collecting and shooting, we saw significant differences in accuracy among these pistols.
We wanted to test the accuracy capabilities of some of our best semi-autos and see if our anecdotal beliefs about accuracy were supported by the data. Would the difference be the true difference in mechanical accuracy or would it be the difference in readability due to better ergonomics or other human factors?
To achieve this, we decided to conduct a face-to-face group trial. For this first test, we selected ten of our pistols to put to the test. We determined that all pistols tested in this first round would be (1) semi-automatic centerfire pistols of exceptional quality and accuracy, (2) built specifically for the range, and (3) chambered for 9mm or . 32S&W Long. Each of these pistols would have an accurate reputation. We decided to exclude the 1911s because we are planning a future group test of the best 1911s. We added the Glock 17L as an eleventh pistol at the last minute at the suggestion of others to serve as a frame of reference. We know our decision to exclude rimfires, pistols, revolvers and 1911s from this first test will be controversial when discussing the most accurate pistols, but we will address the other classes of pistols in future group tests.
So what happens when the best is compared to the best? It's a fun exercise to measure the smallest corners. It is hard work, but it is also a joy to have many of the most accurate pistols in the world in the same place at the same time.
